New Leaders Needed

The Scout Group in Wheathampstead is so successful that we have many youngsters on the waiting list to join especially the Beavers (from age 6 years - 8 years) that we are unable to offer them all a place. The Cub Packs (Age 8 - 10 ½ years) & Scout Troops (age 10½ - 14 years) would benefit with more help so that the children can enjoy the exciting programme that Scouting can offer.

The many benefits that Scouting offers a child are mostly down to the time and commitment given by the adult Leaders. You may not know the following facts:

  • None of our Leaders are paid - they are volunteers.
  • The majority of our Leaders have full time jobs and a family.
  • 44% of our Leaders are female.
  • Leaders get involved because they want to have fun and make new friends.
  • Whilst all our volunteers are passionate about what they do, many help on a flexible basis, some may help out once a week or fortnight others as much as they can manage.
  • 27% of volunteers help out in Scouting as they are a parent of a current Member.
  • Many were not Scouts or Guides when they were young.
  • All our Leaders are covered by a comprehensive insurance policy while taking part in Scouting.
  • Leaders in Scouting go through an enhanced criminal records check to ensure they are fit to work with young people.

Volunteering in Scouting is fun and rewarding. You will have the chance to learn new skills, rediscover adventure for yourself, make new friends, and give something back to the community. Everyone has something to give, you may love gardening, be a good cook, like going for walks, have a hobby or interest that you could share.

Please think about helping us to give the youngsters in the village a chance to experience something different and learn skills that will help them discover their potential. If you want to find out more about how you can help and give children the experience of Scouting please contact Jan Spragge the 1st Wheathampstead Group Scout Leader on (Wheathampstead) 833659.
